Bonanza Bros is an old Sega game, back from the Sega Genesis days in 1991, that was re-released on the Wii on January 29 2007 for the price of 800 Wii points, allowing new gamers to experience its odd mix of stealth and platforming.
Bonanza Bros uses a weird cartoony graphics style that, while it isn’t horrible, isn’t going to win any fans either. The sound and music are ok but completely forgettable.
Taking control of one of the Bonanza Bros, I was tasked with sneaking into heavily guarded areas to steal from the rich and give to myself. The stealth part actually works, fairly well, enemies have set patrol routes and can often be avoided with careful timing. Although, to be honest, I often just ended up relying on my stun gun to get past all the heavily armed guards. Each level finds the Bros in a different building where the goal is to sneak in, grab as much treasure as possible, and then make it to the escape point before the timer runs out.
It’s fairly fun at first but the controls are a bit clunky and there’s very little change from one level to the next, making the game really repetitious. I ended up getting bored with single player pretty quickly. There’s also cooperative multiplayer mode where my friend and I got to each take a one of the Bros and play through the levels together, which definitely upped the fun factor a bit.
All that aside, the biggest problem with Bonanza Bros is its length. The game can easily be beaten in under an hour on your first play through and, with nothing new to be seen or gained from playing multiple times, there’s really no reason to do it more than once.
So would I recommend buying Bonanza Bros? No, you’re better off saving those Wii points for something else. The single player game is too short and too repetitious to be worth your time and if you want two player co-op, there are better games out there. |
